Then, on the coldest morning of the year, Vicki found a tiny, bedraggled kitten almost frozen to death in the night drop box, and her life—and the town of Spencer—was never the same.     I do not know what did I expect, the story of a cat living in a library in an Iowa small town...
    There are some interesting descriptions (alas too short) of farm life in the author's youth, economic crisis and decadence. The different fates of Spencer, surviving through the crisis, and Moneta, falling apart, are very interesting.
    I am a cat-lover but I found this book 50-100 pages too long.

    I am a dog person and never like cats. However, I cannot imagine anyone, be it a dog or cat person, not loving Dewey after reading this gem of a book.

    I am a dog person and never like cats. However, I cannot imagine anyone, be it a dog or cat person, not loving Dewey after reading this gem of a book.

    Dewey, a stray kitten adopted by the public library of Spencer, a 10,000-person town in Iowa, was such a special and adorable angel that he touched not only those in Spencer or Iowa, but also people across the States and around the world.

    I shall leave it to readers to find out how Dewey did that. For me, I am particularly moved by the 19-year relationship between Vicki Myron, the library director, and Dewey. Dewey was like a son to Vicki. Reading the last chapter of the book almost brought me to tears.

    A must read.

    This is about more than a cat; small town life, librarianship, family, and of course, Dewey. Thoughtful and touching.

    finished this book on quite a memorial day,
    a great book, about a amazing cat....Dewey Readmore books.
    the last chapter healed me from my deep cut,
    i got a deep cut, but i got someone hold me tight and tell me, it's all right, i'll get over it.
