I read this book because I found its prequel, Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl, funny and enjoyable.
Like its prequel, Diary of a Married Call Girl, is a semi-autobiographical novel of Tracy Quan, a call girl in New York for many years. Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl is hilarious because of not only its racy details (Quan gave a detailed description of the encounters of Nancy, a hooker, with her major clients), but also her take on men and relationship.
The same cannot be said about the sequel. It's still very graphic (definitely not for the prude). But this time, the protagonist, Nancy, is already married to a good man - Matt, an investment banker. Her livelihood is well provided for, and there is no reason for her to continue with her hooking career. Juggling her business with her chores as a homemaker was driving her crazy, let alone keeping her career a secret from her husband and his family.
There is absolutely no reason for her to do so, and throughout the book, Nancy tries to find herself a justifiable cause but it's unconvincing, even to herself. Her excuse of "being loyal to the profession" is lame and, I must say, pathetic, especially when you consider what she does is nothing different from cheating on her husband everyday. Her husband will be devastated if he finds out one day. Has she thought about that when she said he is the love of her life? What if she goes out to a function as a banker's wife and runs into his business acquaintance who is one of her clients? How embarrassing that would be ... And in one scene, she has the nerve to suspect that Matt was cheating on her. That's too much for me.
Maybe that's why Diary of a Married Call Girl has not sold as well as the first one. The whole theme is simply improper and unconscionable.
However, if you are just looking for something funny and naughty, you may like it. It's worth a laugh.
