"Dinosaurs Before Dark" is the first book of the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. The author is very skillful in getting young readers engaged in the adventures by Jack and Annie across the entire 10 chapters - all starting with the discovery of a mysterious tree house. Although the Magic Tree House series were written for older kids (9-12 years), my 6-year-old loves it! In fact, we finished the whole book in only one setting (1.5 hrs or so).
This book is not just a story book but also offers young readers (and parents) interesting knowledge about dinosaurs (e.g., Pterodactyl, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, etc). The visual effect through the illustrations (by Sal Murdocca) were also nicely done, which helps bring a realistic feeling to the young readers about Jack and Annie's exciting journey in the Age of dinosaurs.
