Douglas, another story please! I'm going to buy an answerphone and then I'll wait for a call by your ghost, it's ok?

I really do love everything Douglas Adams has ever written.
Dirk Gentry was at first a bit disappointing compared to the Guide, but reading deeper, it is pure genius and wisdom, masked as nonsense.

Lost cats (or not), an electronic monk on a distant planet, a time-traveling professor, and a ghost. Dirk Gently pulls it all together and manages to save the universe while he's at it.

Nevertheless a good reading, with some fantastic ideas, not always developed at their best. But it would be unfair to judge it not for itself but in comparison with the Guide, so three stars out of four. (I would like to have far more flexibility with those stars, say 5 out of 8, or 7 out of 10)
