It has been awhile since I read a good ghost story and this novel by Stephen King did not disappoint. I was drawn into plot very quickly by the dropped hints at something bigger about to be revealed. Edgar is compelling as a narrator because he seems to be so helpless against the forces acting upon him. Miss Eastlake provides the perfect old lady to push things up a notch. Of course, I am a sucker for a story drenched in the lore of the Southern past as well. Highly recommend this book for anyone who just loves a spooky ghost story.
Stephen King is at his best. I can't wait to find out what happens next, yet I never want it to end. Not a blood and guts thriller, but plenty of evil lurking beneath the surface of this amazing, thought-provoking novel. This is one that truly shows why Stephen will always be the King of Horror.
His best novel since Dreamcatcher. I really got engrossed by it, and enjoyed it immensely, except for one event, that while it works great in the flow of the story, still made me sad...but emotional impact is probably a trait of any well-written novel.
I love Stephen King but he can be very hit or miss. I loved this one. I think mainly because I feel in love with all of the characters and felt like I was on the island with them living in Big Pink!
LOVED this book!!! It was a hard one to get into at first, then I was hooked! I think it's one of his best!
A grippingly suspenseful novel about a man trying to cope after a near-fatal accident on an island paradise with a dark past
