questa è la storia di una ragazzina viziata e saputella che crede di conoscere il cuore di chiunque della sua cerchia. in realtà prende di quelle cantonate al limite dell'imbarazzane. l'unico che la sopporta ovviamente se la sposa... La zia Jane, come al solito, si fa beffe di tutti!

This is most certainly a pleasant reading, though it can't be said to be the best coming out of Jane Austen's pen. This is most certainly a pleasant reading, though it can't be said to be the best coming out of Jane Austen's pen. It has its fair share of silly characters and funny villains as it was in the other novels, and the heroine is probably the most disagreeable among all the others which is rather a dare from the writer, but the storyline is a bit too much straining to involve the reader in an extreme whole-sale match-making game. It's quite diverting at first, but there's definitely too much of it as it goes on, almost a cheap choice of design amidst the good character making which Austen's is used to deliver to her readers. Fortunately enough, the enticing, briskly perky Austen's style of writing comes out unscathed from the unusual mediocre plot and is as time-worthy as it has ever been in any Austen's novels.
All in all a good reading for those who enjoy her romances.

The ladies here probably exchanged looks which meant, "Men never know when things are dirty or not;" and the gentlemen perhaps thought each to himself, "Women will have their little nonsenses and needless cares." ~ EMMA

I refuse to use the word review as it would be insulting to one of Britain's greatest classic writers. I am a huge fan of Miss Austen and Emma did not disappoint in any way at all. I refuse to use the word review as it would be insulting to one of Britain's greatest classic writers. I am a huge fan of Miss Austen and Emma did not disappoint in any way at all. Beautifully written with the usual descriptive scene setting that we have come to expect from this author. I love Emma who is a wonderful character full of charm but with flaws, so human. The reader wonders how can she be so blind to what is actually going on around her. It is her sense of goodwill to others that lends her tendency to read situations so incorrectly. I have seen the BBC production with Romola Garai in the lead role and when reading the book I could only picture Michael Gambon as Mr Woodhouse as his characterisation was so fitting. I found myself transported to Hartfield and could just imagine such a setting. I love the way Jane Austen always introduces characters of ridicule and Mrs Elton in particular was insufferable and also, the garrulous aunt of Jane Fairfax, Miss Bates.

"Emma" è l’ultimo romanzo di Jane Austen e, forse, il suo più grande capolavoro. La scrittrice inglese era un’attenta osservatrice della vita reale ed era molto interessata alla comprensione dei rapporti umani, soprattutto quelli tra uomini e donne.
I suoi personaggi, appartenenti all’alta borghesia, sembrano vivere in un mondo ristretto, quasi paradossale, intenti solo al divertimento e completamente indifferenti ai problemi sociali e storici del loro periodo. A questo mondo appartiene Emma Woodhouse, una giovane ricca, bella ed intelligente, viziata dalla troppa ammirazione degli altri e dal troppo affetto. Emma è vanitosa, fiera di se stessa nel suo mondo ovattato, fatto solo di balli, pettegolezzi e banalità, tanto da apparire cieca, non obiettiva, incapace di vedere la realtà così come è. Talmente è piena di se stessa ed indipendente, da credere di "non aver bisogno di un marito" e spendere la sua vita cercando di combinare matrimoni degli altri. Ma in questo suo intento e nelle avventure che ne derivano, Emma inizia il suo graduale sviluppo di consapevolezza e crescita interiore. Quando finalmente abbandonerà la sua vanità e sentimento "snob", sarà capace di innamorarsi, riconoscendo i suoi errori ed imparando ad accettare gli altri.
