It's always the sign of a truly accomplished writer when their book holds you, despite the fact that not awfully much happens. Enchanted Glass is no exception to Diana Wynne Jones's general rule of using, and possibly abusing, folklore and fantasy f ... (read full critics)

I started reading DWJ after I was desperate for more magic under the Happy Potter craze. I bought this book as soon as I saw it in the store.
Although I got a bit tired of Chrestomanci after a while, this latest book Enchanted Glass is about a new world based on modern life where magic comes from people and creatures inside a field-of-care. Andrew Hope had recently became the new owner of Melstone House in place of his grandfather. Everybody tries to get their way and constantly keeps him away from writing his book. Out of the blue comes Aidan Cain, reminding Andrew things he should have remembered and the reason he was there.
I really enjoyed the book and the vegetables and all the new magic. A must have if you are a DWJ fan. It is less complicated that the Game, where I got confused with some of the names, and the plot was quite easy to follow. I liked most of the characters especially Aidan, but i didn't quite fall for Stashe. Sadly the ending was rather odd so I give it only four stars.
Hope DWJ will get well soon! I still want more of her books.
