For the very hungry reader

As an adult who'd never read any of Eric Carle's books I could not understand why his stories were so popular. With all those wacky illustrations I failed to see why everyone thought they were "the best". Now, as a parent it's leek I've had a new door open in front of me. I simple love the book, and so does my son. It is one of the books he takes to bed at all times. He likes "reading" (the kind of reading an 18-month-old might do) the story over and over again and feeling the little holes with his fingers. He also loves looking at the beautiful butterfly on the last page.
I still don't see why his illustrations have become so famous but again, my son loves them and they're aimed at people his age, so I can only but agree and admit they are great. I guess the bright colours are catchy and interesting to look at. The text, too is wonderful. Repetition makes it easy for little children to learn words and expressions.
I'm glad I've got to know The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
