The classic bestseller about censorship - more important now than ever before.
Fahrenheit 451
...the temperature at which books burn
The novel of firemen who are paid to set books ablaze.

Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires...
The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning... along with the houses in which they were hidden.
Guy Montag enjoyed his job. He has been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages being consumed by flames... never questioned anything until her met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid.
Then he met a professor who told him of a future which people could think... and Guy Montage suddenly realized what he had to do!
"Frightening in its implications... Mr. Bradbury's account of this insane world, which bears many alarming resemblances to our own, is fascinating!" The New York Times

Just began, I felt I couldn't stop reading it.
    Strikingly clairvoyant, and wonderfully written.

"There was a silly damn bird called a phoenix back before Christ, every few hundred years he built a pyre and burnt himself up. He must have been first cousin to Man. But every time he burnt himself up he sprang out of the ashes, he got himself born all over again. And it looks like we're doing t ... (continue)

"There was a silly damn bird called a phoenix back before Christ, every few hundred years he built a pyre and burnt himself up. He must have been first cousin to Man. But every time he burnt himself up he sprang out of the ashes, he got himself born all over again. And it looks like we're doing the same thing, over and over, but we've got one damn thing the phoenix never had. We know the damn silly things we've done for a thousand years and as long as we know that and always have it around where we can see it, someday we'll stop making the goddamn funeral pyres and jumping in the middle of them. We pick up a few more people that remember every generation."

This is a fabulous book. I have read it twice and loaned it out many times. I have yet to meet the person who dislikes it.

  • 1984's "soulmate" book

This is one of those books you cannot miss in your life. A visionary, troubling and terribly realistic story about the importance of culture and human exchange. I read almost all of it in the subway and I was creeped out by the image of dull people listening to their earphones...
