There are many ways to die. But some are more terrifying than others...

A walk in the woods takes a sinister turn for police chief Jeffrey Tolliver and medical examiner Sara Linton when they stumble across the body of a young girl. Incarcerated in the ground, all the initial evidence indicates that she has, quite literally, been scared to death.

But as Sara embarks on the autopsy, something even more horrifying comes to light. Something which shocks even her. Detective Lena Adams, talented but increasingly troubled, is called in from vacation to help with the investigation - and the trail soon leads to the neighbouring county, an isolated community, and a terrible secret...

Faithless is a novel based around small towns. The plot was captivating - victims buried alive with a pipe connecting the coffin to the outside to ensure the victims remain alive and aware of what is happening to them. Unfortunately, Karin Slaughter has a grating way of narrating the story - she favours a lot of dialogue and a lot of useless details that can be quite frustrating to read when all i want is for the story to progress. I do not think these details add depth to the story so they are more of a hindrance. I would not write off Karin Slaughter's books, but i would not be anticipating her new-releases either. These are the sort of books that you probably buy on impulse and when you have a lot of time on your hands to read (after getting through novels by your other favourite authors first).
