At the age of nine, Finnikin is warned by the gods that he must sacrifice a pound of flesh in order to save the royal house of his homeland, Lumatere. And so he stands on the rock of three wonders with his childhood friend Prince Balthazar and the prince's cousin, Lucian, and together they mix their blood. And Lumatere is safe. I liked the characters, events and most of all the ending.
I highly recommend it for everyone who likes to read about fantasy kingdoms, magic, strong leaders and human emotions.
The book describes the events mostly from the male point of view. But don't be put out by it; the stile will suit for reading by both sexes. The plot was reach and the events well paced. The feelings and emotional experience of characters equals those of the Harry Potter series. They are believable.
This book is a proof, that one book still can contain a great story.
