Book Description

Julie Harmon works hard, "hard as a man" they say, so hard that at times she's not sure she can stop. People depend on her. She is just a teenager when her brother dies in her arms. The following year, she marries Hank and moves to Gap Creek. Julie and Hank discover that the modern world is complex, grinding ever on without pause or concern for their hard work. To survive, they must find out whether love can keep chaos and madness at bay.

I really liked this audiobook. It was about a couple who lived in a house on Gap Creek while they cared for an elderly man by the name of Mr. Pendergast (spelling?). He dies and they have no where to go so they stay and care for the home & property. They experience many hardships during their time living there and they are continually waiting for the heirs of the property to come and kick them out. I was pulled into the story from the beginning.
