  • A classic tale of SF. The "shrink" part is important but rather boring. The "exploration" part is very well written.

  • I've been craving for some old school space opera and ran into this Pohl title recently. Gateway won the major awards in its year of publication and it is a decent read, though judging from memory, I like Man Plus more (I read that title more than 2 decades ago, so not entirely sure it is a fair ass ...     I've been craving for some old school space opera and ran into this Pohl title recently. Gateway won the major awards in its year of publication and it is a decent read, though judging from memory, I like Man Plus more (I read that title more than 2 decades ago, so not entirely sure it is a fair assessment).

    Gateway isn't very action packed; if that's what you're looking for then Donaldson's Gap series is way more fun. Pohl seems much more interested in developing characters' inner worlds and peeling them away layer by layer than space hopping adventure.
