Great book about the -travelling- imperator, one in a serie of five great caesars. It took predecessor Trajanus a long time to select Hadrianus, who was early on capax imperii, as his successor.
Hadrianus realized the empire could not keep on expanding. Hadranius top three: build limes (limi?), which marked the border of the empire, allow conquered civilizations to help run the empire and keep the legions fit for battle. Hadrianus was a great general and loved poetry and philosophy. It must have shocked him when Domitianus banned all philosophers from Rome (in 95).
