To me (and very subjectively), the way that the author has described the love between Dinko Babich and Lita Medina Flores and then let Lita die so frivolously just shows that the author is heartless, and he just likes to manipulate the story to somehow manipulate his readers' feeling.
Though Detective Bino Willaseñor made up an explanation for not finding Lita and her mother in Mexican records (birth, health and criminal), does the author imply a bit that Lita had actually created her personal stories to gain Dinko's sympathy ? Dinko doesn't seem to think this way. I don't like this implication. Maybe, we (the readers) love Lita and Dinko too much, more than the author anyway.
There are a lot of slangs and a lot of police jargons that I have to google to figure out. But the story is kind of flat as there is not much suspense or mystery. It is just like a illustration of cliché stories about the life of the criminals and police officers. Nothing spectacular nor unusual to me....Continua
