I was frustrated with this book, although not as much as I was with the fifth. It seems that even as the themes mature and grow darker, the writing style remains the same. I also was highly frustrated that areas which could have been explored, and in some cases should have been explored, were shunted off to the side in favor of moving the story forward without too much complexity. The idea that Sirius' death had so little an impact when Harry was more than ready to have him as a guardian right after meeting him made no sense. At this point, I'm just reading the series so that I know what happens at the end. Even if it does fit the classical coming-of-age hero quest, there are variations. If I've come this far, I may as well finish the series out.

    • Just read it
    • The movie leaves so much out, it's always better to read the book! We get to see a different side of Severus Snape, which is refreshing.

    • My Thoughts
    • I love this book! Just love it! To know the final step to end Voldy's treachery! Everyone should at least give his book a try... but not before you read the other five first.

Book Description

Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts begins, and it feels like a reassuring place to return to after the strange events of the summer. Disappearances, murder and an ominous chilling mist which swirls through both the Muggle and wizarding worlds are harbingers of more sinister purpose. Voldemort’s army is swelling, and with it the Death Eaters are growing bolder and more deadly. Suspicions are rife, and allegiances questions as even the safest havens cease to feel secure from the Dark wizards. As the storm gathers strength, Harry must face the terrifying truth of his destiny.

With her irresistibly deft mix of suspense and humor, J.K. Rowling reveals the sheer intricacy and brilliance of the world she has created, as the pieces of the jigsaw start to fall into place.
