    While Palahniuk's books typically contain a lot more than meets the eye, I found this to be especially true of Haunted. While some of the stories may shock you (or even cause you to feel a little lightheaded, nauseous, or faint--believe me when I say you should always sit down while reading this book), the brutal and gruesome nature of many of them explores human identity and nature, our presumptions about and expectations of life and what lies ahead, and above all, our desperate and unspoken desire for pain and suffering and a villain upon which to blame it. Deftly written, in true Palahniuk fashion.

  • Eu não sei como Chuck Palahniuk consegue, mas todo novo livro dele me surpreende, este tem as estórias mais bizarras que já pude ler, é um livro muito envolvente, bom para passar as horas, cada conto é uma pérola única.

  • A few of the short stories are great, most just mediocre, but what really killed it for me were the hysterical adventures of the wannabe writers. It all totally spiralled out of control! The holo cover is cool though.. ;)

"Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: Twenty-three of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter--sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months," and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them. But "here" turns out to be a cavernous and ornate old theater where they are utterly isolated from the outside world--and where heat and power and, most important, food are in increasingly short supply. And the more desperate the circumstances become, the more extreme the stories they tell--and the more devious their machinations become to make themselves the hero of the inevitable play/movie/nonfiction blockbuster that will surely be made from their plight.
