"A triumph of the imagination. Rich, complex, impossible to put down."
Alice Hoffman
In the middle of the twenty-first century, life as we know it has changed for all time. Shira Shipman's marriage has broken up, and her young son has been taken from her by the corporation that runs her zone, so she has returned to Tikva, the Jewish free town where she grew up. There, she is welcomed by Malkah, the brilliant grandmother who raised her, and meets an extraordinary man who is not a man at all, but a unique cyborg implanted with intelligence, emotions--and the ability to kill....
From the imagination of Marge Piercy comes yet another stunning novel of morality and courage, a bold adventure of women, men, and the world of tomorrow.

Certainly there are things that are very interesting in this novel, and it's especially so for me because this is the first cyborg/cyberpunk novel in my reading list. But I have to admit: I feel bored sometimes when I read this book...especially the latter part. Some similar motifs keep repeating, the plot proceeds slowly, and then the book seem too thick for me and my reading speed becomes slower because I feel tired. Similar scenario happens when I read Women on the Edge of Time, but with He, She and It, I have to say it happens more often...

In appearance, this is a cyborg/cyberpunk novel, but actually, it's a romance--here, a romance between human beings and cyborg. Some critics argue that, compared to Women on the Edge of Time, this novel is not as progressive and radical as it seems to be, and I agree with that. In a way, maybe Piercy is trying to find a balance between tradition (some would say humanism) and...perhaps technology (or, as many critics would put, posthumanism).
