In this fifth of the Shardlake series, time has moved forward a few years. Catherine Parr is Queen and Henry VIII is involved in a disastrous naval campaign against the French. As we have now learnt to expect, the whole book is soaked in the most
wonderful historical colour and detail. I enjoyed the other books in the series, but I was a bit disappointed with this one. It really does not 'get going' until about half way through and then the plot is a tad far fetched. Pity.
