a MUST read for 7 reasons
1) if you like Gothic Romance, Mystery and Macabre classical kind of Horror Fictions (dark-stormy atmospheres, fears, obsessions, psychic and health illnesses, burying grounds, ghosts, curses... you know, Edgar Allan Poe kind of Gothic Fiction).
2) if you LOVE well-documented fictions base ... (continue)
2) if you LOVE well-documented fictions based on real existed people, well described real cities and real facts (Gianfranco Manfredi's postscript is just an example of the huge amount of researches he did and all the documentation he used. I really enjoyed and loved the postscrip!).
3) if you are in LOVE with the topic of changing of the human customs, minds and morals during the Age of Enlightenment (you'll find in this book a little bit of France, British Empire, American Colonies but most of all the fascinating Rhode Island of the 18th and 19th century!).
4) if you are interested in the historical and medical origins of the popular beliefs in Vampires (Vampirism roots), Ghouls and Revenants.
5) if you like books built upon the solid foundations of the proper written language (i don't know the translated versions but the italian original language is so nice and poetic).
6) SPOILER: if you LOVE sharp, cynical, sarcastic but pure-harted male and female characters (and you also LOVE smelling shounenai scent between hot-sexy... better i stop xD).
7) last but not least, if you like a certain kind of ending (i'm not talking about it in here) and the possibility to find your favourite characters in a second episode (sequel: http://goo.gl/3cB4h).

note: please, do not read this book if you think "Twilight" is a (good) vampires saga neither if you think it's well written.
