ITS THE NIGHT BEFORE HOGSWATCH.  AND IT'S TOO QUIET.

Where is the big jolly fat man?  Why is Death creeping down chimneys and trying to say Ho Ho Ho?  The darkest night of the year is getting a lot darker...

Susan the gothic governess has got to sort it out by morning, otherwise there won't be a morning.  Ever again...

The 20th Discworld novel is a festive feast of darkness and Death (but with jolly robins and tinsel too).

As they say:  You'd better watch out...

  • Someone wants to kill Hogfather, so the Death takes his place on the sledge (pulled by four pigs). It's funny, but also enchanting and clever like Pratchett is. Highly recommended, especially in the Xmas season.

  • This was a good Christmas fantasy book. I enjoyed the scenes with Death trying to do the right thing. I also liked the scenes with the wizards and their trying not to think of new gods and fairies.

Another favorite of mine. This work was recently adapted for television in the UK (sadly, unavailable on region 1 dvd), but it's easy to see why. One of the more accessible books for a Discworld neophyte, Pratchett takes on the holidays - and faith and religion, to boot - with his characteristic charm and wit. Uproariously funny, "The Hogfather" is a parody of holiday commercialism in our modern world.
