What a delightful little book. This 58-page book (or booklet, which is probably nearer the mark), extracted from Steven Pinker's acclaimed How the Mind Works, is a distilled essence of subjects ranging from emotions to deceptions to bargaining to love. It dares to propose answers to age-old questions such as why romantic love is irrational. It addresses the phenomenon of grief and its function, when grieving obviously does not alleviate the grief. It explains the paradox of how being in a position of power can in fact handicap oneself in a bargaining situation.
These subjects are all huge and each deserves a whole book in its own right, so this book does leave you wanting more. Or perhaps this is a teaser, meant to motivate you to buy How the Mind Works? If that is so, I gladly comply.
