This is a great book with a mix of humour and incisive reflection from Bill Bryson. Anyone reading the book will find himself (1) laughing hysterically or (2) feeling touched not just by Bryson's observation of life in the USA and Britain but also human nature in general. This book collects some of the column essays which Bryson wrote for an English newspaper in the late 90s. It is a combination of typical Bryson humour(cynisim) and acute observations, together with some statistical findings and astounding facts, provides a funny/ sad/ silly picture of modern America.
