She's a fashion model who has everything: a boyfriend, a career, a loyal best friend. But when a sudden freeway "accident" leaves her disfigured and incapable of speech, she is transformed from the beautiful center of attention to an invisible monster, so hideous that no one will acknowledge she exists. Enter Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, one operation away from becoming a real woman, who will teach her that reinventing yourself means erasing your past and making up something better. And that salvation hides in the last places you'll ever want to look.

Invisible Monsters is a book about vanity.

Apparently, it talks about Shannon McFarland, a famous model brutally disfigured, in a journey with the drag queen Brandy Alexander, escaping from the life. While the novel goes on, more facts come to the surface, revealing her past in crysis, a family torn apart by the death of her brother, and her ... (continue)

Apparently, it talks about Shannon McFarland, a famous model brutally disfigured, in a journey with the drag queen Brandy Alexander, escaping from the life. While the novel goes on, more facts come to the surface, revealing her past in crysis, a family torn apart by the death of her brother, and her best friend, Evie, and her story with Shannon fiancé.
Chuck Palahniuk again succeeds to give out a ferocious criticism about society and appearance, and to write a very enjoyable book with an ending that connects all the situations, with surprising turn of events.

This was an intriguing book about identity and perception. I liked how Shannon gradually learned about making assumptions based on appearances and how she learned the truth about herself and others.

Although the book has some sick details, the storyline is AMAZING. I would definitely recommend it to any adults. It addresses many of our worlds problems in a different manor.

I don't know if I'll ever finish it. I had high hopes for this book, I thought it would be better than 'Lullaby'; the story seemed promising. But what a disappointment instead. Badly written, confused, repetitive (how many times can you write 'back to when..' 'flash to'), empty characters that were constructed to be weirder and weirder as the story progressed. After a while I slowed down reading, now I've stopped completely, whats the point in reading another 100 pages exactly the same as the previous ones? For me, none. I almost hated this book, I cant find one redeeming feature in it.
