Island of the Blue Dolphins如同作者Scott O'Dell所說: Many of my books are set in the past, but the problems of isolation, moral decisions, greed, need for love and problems of today as well.
Animals and birds are like people, too, though they do not speak the same or do the same things. Without them the earth would be an unhappy place. I thought of many things, but stronger was the wish to be where people lived, to hear their voices and their laughter.

I purchased this book at a book fair in elementary school. It was one of my favorite books as a young girl and have read it several times - which is something I RARELY do with books. I can't think of another book I've purposely read more than once (as of 1/2008). There is such a surreal quality about the story that really sets the visual fantasy mind of mine at work.
