Joel-Peter Witkin (b.1939) is a major artist whose work shocks but also provokes and questions. In his examination of the human condition, Witkin reinterprets some of the great works of Western art and photographic history in his own terms. Although controversial, his work has been exhibited worldwide and won numerous awards.
