    A wonderful book, full of insights into the world of the 1970s. Many of the descriptive passages are superb and the moral insights are still valid for a contemporary reader. There are two downsides for me. There is a a part of the book, towards the end, where the author diverts himself into a bit of homespun philosophy which presumably made sense to him, but made little to me. There are other areas where he races through his journey, giving one the impression that he was getting tired of writing his account. But those are small complaints compared to the overall impact. Most telling of all, for me, was to compare then and now, and to examine the impact that politicians have had on the peace, safety and stability of our fragile world.
