Can you say boring? To me even too boring, trite and not fun to read at all! It took me forever to finish it
The story happened in a French ski resort, where an avalanche buried a couple in snow. Rescue was done, family members (legitimate and illegitimate children) showed up. The story is about family matters and international cultural conflicts, among the English, the French, and the Americans.
As usual Diane Johnson's book is very interesting. I couldn't stop reading and every chapter has new development. The first 1/2 was very well done. However, at the 3/4 of the book I was getting tired of the ignorance and innocency of the American main character. ("It is so American to help, your long tradition of saving Europeans!", "Another example of unilateral American meddling, with no regard for the consequences to others," were the comments from European characters to the American one.) The last 1/4 was not as interesting as beginning but still satisfactory. Overall I enjoyed reading this book.
P.S. It seems that in French, "l'affaire" could also mean "inheritance properties" or "real estates" in addition to "love affairs."...Continua
