Dahl is the master in building tension; the murder scene in Lamb to the Slaughter is just impeccable. That was the first murder story that I read as a child and it left such an indelible impression on my sweeeet uncorrupted mind that I dreamt about it for years.
The climax in my dream, however, was always the part where I get to eat the perfectly roasted lamb.
