  If you loved the movie...

  you will love the book.
  I read it while I was in Norway last winter. -18 degrees outside and snow everywhere. A nightmare.

  Yep, no cloaks, no castles, no tall dark figures, just a girl dressed in thrift-shop clothes, living in a suburban apartment near Stockholm, becoming friends with the boy next door who takes a while to work out why he only sees her in the evening. A fresh approach to a vampire novel, sometimes seeming to explain the practical difficulties that beset a vampire who needs blood to survive. Chilling at times - it made me frightened of the dark for a while, and at other times heart-warming and good for the soul. I read it about a week or two before the film opened in the UK. I liked the film also and I think I will re-read the book sometime.

  Vampires with heart

  A very gritty, involving novel. Gripping from the very start. I enjoy these sorts of books, where the reader knows a character's secrets before the hero/heroine does. An earthy story, accurately observing human nature, weakness, bullying, and fear.

  Excellent (for the horror genre) - Twilight it ain't

  WELL - just finished this, after only 2 days reading. Exciting and rollicking vampire thriller with a fair smattering of horror, plus teenage love. Thankfully, nothing at ALL like the Twilight franchise.
