  I think the idea Cooper had for the "serial killer" is quite interesting, but I admit I found a bit difficult to follow the events especially at the beginning: too many time-warps to remember, once back to the present, which day we were reading of before jumping to the 8th century.   I think the idea Cooper had for the "serial killer" is quite interesting, but I admit I found a bit difficult to follow the events especially at the beginning: too many time-warps to remember, once back to the present, which day we were reading of before jumping to the 8th century. Intriguing indeed those parts set at the abbey.
  The linguistic error at the beginning is simply ridiculous: why in the world couldn't Cooper check on the Internet the exact spelling of "Alea Iacta Est" (in the book: alia jacta est)? I agree with those who found the editing of this book quite appalling.
  As for the story itself, at the end of the day is just an ordinary thriller.

  I found the transitions between the time-periods too abrupt. The idea of the Library gets too grotesque. I zipped through the second half just to find out what happened to Shackleton.

  I just found the title fascinating, and I was gladly surprised by the intriguing and well-crafted story. And there are also some chapters set in a 1947 archaeological excavation in the Isle of Wight, fairly accurate I must say!
