    我心目中的 H2G2 其實到第二集《宇宙盡頭的餐廳》就完結了，因為它也同樣是原廣播劇 The Primary Phase 的結尾，頂多加上與 The Secondary Phase 共用的梗。（小說第一集只到原劇 The Primary Phase 的三分之二，剩下的部分到第二集才寫完，所以我們在第二集結尾才 知道 42 的真正意義原來是「荒誕無謂」X-D）相信對當初的 Adams 來說也是如此。所以當他要續寫系列第三集小說的時候，用的是原本 要拿來拍 Doctor Who，結果被 BBC 退貨的故事 Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen。

    由於這層緣故，本書與前兩集的耦合程度並不高，讀起來反而比較像 獨立的 episode。主角一行人如何阻止「阪裘」人毀滅宇宙成為貫串 全書的主軸。不過也因此造成角色比重顯得「失衡」：Ford Prefect 顯得較為安靜，反倒是 Slartibartfast（史拉德檜）佔住原唬博士的戲分， 所以活躍許多，有喧賓奪主的味道。Trillian 也基於同樣的原因，在本書後段經過灌頂後，從純花瓶轉變成關鍵人 物。搞笑主力 Arthur Dent 和 Zephod Beeblebrox 還是一樣爆笑，特別是每次轉世都會被 Arthur 迫害的 Agrajag（阿瓜加）那一段。Marvin 出場機會不多，但依然是重要亮點。

    只是在脫離了宇宙至大問題之後，這一集的笑梗給我的感覺就比較沒 那麼有「哲理」，看過笑過就算了，不會想繼續細細回味、省思（不 像「42」除了表面上「荒誕無謂」的說法，背後隱含的東西頗不簡 單，前兩集還有不少梗頗耐人尋味）。所以不要先給它掛上 cult 的期待光環，純粹享受故事本身，可能會比較好一點。

Non l'ho trovato all'altezza del primo, che probabilmente non è raggiungibile da nessuno dei successivi, ma è notevolmente migliore del secondo, forse anche per il fatto di avere una trama vera ...     Per il momento si piazza saldamente al secondo posto tra i libri della Guida Galattica per Autostoppisti. Non l'ho trovato all'altezza del primo, che probabilmente non è raggiungibile da nessuno dei successivi, ma è notevolmente migliore del secondo, forse anche per il fatto di avere una trama vera e propria che viene portata avanti dall'inizio alla fine.
