  • Huge Let Down

This book was very dissapointing to me. Here are the pros and cons of the book as I see it:

    Pros:
-Some good exercises (if you want to take the time to do them, they might help you figure out some aspects of your life and to live more intentionally)
    -Creative artwork throughout the book

    Cons:
    -Boring, generic writing
-Talks too much about her children, which is not interesting
-Lacks depth and insight. Tries to make some small things in life more profound, but misses the mark on this.
-Feels like someone just wants to tell boring stories about their life and turn them into something they are not. Just doesn't work here. Feels like the author is just trying to make money with this book, without putting much effort into her writing technique.

Overall, hated the book. It was a huge waste of time. Just good to look at the pictures and do some exercises.

This book is a bunch of boring stories about the author's life mashed together with some writing and living exercises at the end of each story. The author reminds me of a high school teacher I had who looooooved to talk about her children any and every chance she got and found a way to work them into every conversation. I love writing exercises but out of the whole book, I only found 5 of them that even slightly interested me.

I sort of feel like sometimes the author missed the point of her own book. Like in one chapter, she says to always rent a red convertible when you need to rent a car because it'll be more fun. I'm all about creating fun life experiences, but shouldn't it really be about having fun no matter what car you get? I have some great memories of rental cars with friends and family, and those just came from enjoying what life throws at you.

In another chapter, she disses a co-worker because she asked him a serious question and he gave her a flip answer. She then decides because of this to never ever work with this guy again. Really? Maybe he just didn't want to discuss his personal feelings with you and wanted you to stop pestering him. I'm sure he was just as happy not to work with this chick again as she was with him. The book gets 2 stars from me for the 5 decent writing exercises, but otherwise it's pretty worthless imo :)
