We picked up this book because the illustrations were really nice. However, the text is just not right.
This is the story of baby gorilla who's born and everybody loves him, "even when he was one day old". Why "even"? A one day old is not supposed to be loved? I don't understand. There aren't that many words in the book so I doubt it's a typo, and if it's not a typo then I don't get it.
The story goes on to say that the baby grows and everybody "still" (?) loves him when he turns one year old. Why "still"?
What is the point of this book? Is there a message for the children-readers to let them know that although they'll grow up and turn one and two, their mummies and daddies will still love them? I don't think kids that age worry about growing old and not being loved. Surely that's more like a teen (if ever) thing, right?
What a stressful idea to be pumping into your child's mind. We're not going to read it to ours. Bye-bye book.
