09-13-2011: I liked the last part the most. I think it is because the little girl is not present any more in this part, and the emotions are very well described that the reader is like a feather in the wind and the author just blows that wind in the direction he wants it. The last part of the book makes you feel happy, angry, fun, sad, suicidal and hopeless in several orders. I think this little part is a real masterpiece. Although the book is all good, this is by far the best part. For me, the most difficult thing was to dettach myself from the horror of the main theme of the book: the robbery of the childhood. I think that there is not worse crime than that. I feel so badly about it that for so many years it was impossible for me to enjoy this book. But finally I overcame the bad feelings and was able to enjoy the fine sense of humor and the great skills of this author. I don't think that the theme is necessary. He should have written this same novel with another less polemic central topic. I don't know what moved him to defy everyone. There are plenty of theories out there, but I still think that this novel would have worked exactly as well without that gross element.
07-30-2011: I always will like the marvellous sense of humor of this author. Nabokov is the best to make you laugh while you are reading, with no effort. I just arrived at mrs. Haze's house and I am loving the descriptions. I'll tell you more as I read more...
07-29-2011: I feel so many different emotions reading this novel. I feel guilty because I like the language, and I like the protagonist. I feel shocked by the brutal crime he is commiting. I feel nauseated by the repeated violence against a child and the slow turning of that child into a very bad human being (what else could she have done?) I hate this novel because I like it very much.
