I can understand the book's success as it is a pretty well written epic style fantasy but it did not really grab me. The constant narration of stories to give us the background of the world put me off. I understand that when a new world is introduced, a certain amount of exposition is required to flesh out the world, but in this case it seemed a bit excessive for my tastes. This is truly one of the most depressingly bad, dark, badly written and uninteresting stories I have read. I gave up when I realized that I would prefer for the so called "bad guy" to win and just kill all the rest, because the story would be far better off without them. That included not only the main character what's-his-name but all the secondary characters and the innocent bystanders too. Off with their heads!
