Foi um livro muito interessante. Jessica Trent nunca pensou conhecer o Lord mais presunçoso e convencido de toda a França. Encontraram-se numa loja de quinquilharias e a atracção foi mútua. Lord Dain sempre teve várias mulheres indecentes, mas gastava sempre rios de dinheiro. O seu aspecto não ajudava muito até conhecer Jessica. Ela sabia que discutir com ele era cansativo. Até que ele põe Lady Trent numa situação complicada e tem de se casar com ela pagando-lhe uma fortuna. Mas lord Dain tem um passado escuro e sofrido, e tem medo que Jessica se afaste dele.
