This book is an intense and documented reportage into one of the most brutal music genres: black metal. Focusing on the Norwegian scene in the early '90s, the authors give the readers a clear insight of the reasons behind the torching of churches and the uprise of violent movements within a country mostly known for its high standards of living and tolerance. Being a fan of extreme metal myself, I strongly appreciated the fact that no moral preclusions are expressed on the music: icon bashing, satanism and right-wing influences are described effectively but neutrally, leaving any judgment to the reader.
