Lustrum thrusts you into the heart of the politics of the Roman Republic and it's not that different from our own. The narrative is more satisfying than that of Imperium, Harris's first volume about Cicero, mainly because the events of Cicero's dramatic rise and fall are more exciting than the previous book's slower pace. Despite dealing with events and people well known to students of Roman history, Harris makes them live and creates suspense. Can't wait to see what happens in the third book - even though I already know!
