From the title you may conclude this is a ‘how to’ book, and it is. Lindegaard succeeded in making a practical guide to open innovation. After a definition chapter, he dives into e.g. getting your organization ready, making in work (and what if it doesn’t) and in relation to the outside of the firm: innovation marketplaces and using social media tools. He discusses the importance of a networking culture and the difficulties of working with ideation platforms.

Open innovation clearly is about the whole innovation process, from beginning to end.
I agree with the author that Open innovation is much more a mindset or philosophy, then it is a separate department or (sometimes even internal) project. In the chapters, Lindegaard blends in several interviews with open innovators, which puts the chapter in a good context.

Some remarks I really liked (“some win-win situations are better than others”, “companies copy competitor’s initiative rather ten creating their own unique initiatives that match their business reasons for doing open innovation”. ). Being a visual person (..) I would have appreciated more visuals in the text. Also, the structure of the book is not completely clear to me. Good chapter takeaways make up for that (and you don’t have to read them all to get going with OI) and so does Stefan’s blog http://www.15inno.com/ Very worthwhile to put in your rss feedly!
