Only a few words about the new chapters in this edition. The author wrote several things on history of navigation and trade. There are remarkable historical statistics... alas M.S. doesn't let us know how he could make his freight index (xviii - xxi century). If you have an idea about primary sources used for this type of historical research you know it's a problem.
However "Maritime economics" it's not a book of history and Mr. Stopford is not an historian... Mr. S. joined Clarksons in 1990 and was previously a Vice President at Chase Manhattan Bank and a Director of British Shipbuilders.
He is an expert on maritime economics and he prove himself an excellent teacher.
