Scarcely a year on from the events of Guards! Guards!, the Ankh-Morpork City Night Watch find their services are once more needed to tackle a threat to their city. A threat at least as deadly as a 60-foot dragon, but mechanical and heartless to boot. It kills without compunction. It is the first gun on the Discworld.

The original Watch - Captain Vimes, Sergeant Colon, Corporal Carrot and Corporal Nobbs - are joined by some new recruits, selected to reflect the city's ethnic make-up - Lance-Constable Cuddy (a dwarf), Detritus (a troll) and Angua (a w..., well, best to find out for yourself).

  • Ah, Captain Vimes.
I love you so much, my poor english cannot express it.
But also Angua! Carrot getting complicated! Assassins! Gonnes! Clowns! Detritus getting smarter! Cuddy not being who I thought he was! Gaspode! Big Fido! Lady Sybil Ramkin! Willikins! Vetinari! Leonardo da Quirm! Gargoyles!

Second book of the watch, and already so beautiful.
Would have probably be a 5 star, if I didn't know what's to come.

  • Captured me in! (Albeit not as good as "Guards! Guards!")

Not as unearthly good as "Guards! Guards!" (the first and previous book of the City Watch saga), still it completely captured me in: I read it in a few days, doing more or less nothing else :)

(And, hey, which book do is as unearthly good as "Guards! Guards!"? Come on, give Mr P. a brea ... (continue)

  • The Watch Strikes Back!

[Note: You'd really need to read *at least* "Guards! Guards!" before starting this book... if you manage to get your hands over "Moving Pictures" it'd be perfect ;-)]

Capt. Vimes is back with the old rank and some new recruits. The kingship of Anhk-Morpork is still an issue for someone, but this time no dragons will be harmed during the novel. Gaspode the Wonder Dog will save the day (again!). Trolls and Dwarfs will... well, it'd better if you read that by yourselves! ;-P

The second Watch book stars the core of the cast of characters that will take you through Discworld series and the ideas that will give birth to most of future novels: a must-have and a MUST READ!
