Book Description

With sure and subtle touch, Eliot paints a luminous and spacious landscape of life in a provincial town, interweaving her themes with a proliferation of characters: an innocent idealist; a self-defeated young doctor; a naive young woman; and a cold man, who "lives too much with the dead".

  • And now, it turns up that George Elliot is a woman!!! I didn't know it! when did this happen?

The book is about a family in an ancient time. I love her style. Why did she have to say that she was a boy?

  • Maybe the assertion of the women the equal status is a bit out of fashion, but the norton edition are the best in terms of sources and critical mass.
