Let me say right off that I am not a fan of books written by a team or group of authors. Most of the time I find myself looking for the seams where one author’s writing leaves off and another‘s begins, like looking for a snag in the hem of a garment. I find it distracting. I also wonder how it is that the authors aren’t good enough to write the books on their own. It sounds awful and snobbish, but there it is. So imagine how absolutely amazing this book (written by a mother/daughter team) had to be for me to be utterly blown away by it. I don’t generally believe in the ‘book you can’t put down’, like sports coaches who don’t believe in ‘must-win’ situations: the descriptor is so generically overused as to be almost worthless. But suffice it to say this books packs everything you’d want in a thriller to keep you up at night: great storyline, great pacing, a wealth of well-drawn characters, intelligent and funny dialogue, and an ending that satisfies. Perhaps most impressive are the dialogue and the fact that all of the characters they introduce are truly interesting. So often in books with multiple convergent plot lines & characters the reader is left feeling like a few of them were loose threads that should have been snipped away. Not so here, and when the book is done, you feel an odd sense of loss that the journey is over. That’s the sign of a great read....Continua
