An absolutely absorbing memoir of a young physician coming "of age" during the inception of the AIDS era in rural America. It is more than just the retelling of the many lives effected by this tragic disease; it is the telling of the quest for belonging and acceptance within a community. Such enormous compassion and caring are almost impossible to imagine where the norm is so detached and seemingly mercenary. It spoke to my prejudices for what they really are and makes me examine my views. Wonderful prose. Truly moving. Two very high thumbs up!!!
