  • Read it tonight while resting. I enjoyed this fairly scary book. How nice to read a scary book that is not filled with boy-girl relationship drama. The lack of foul language grants the story a clarity that I find refreshing. Great book!

At just over 200 pages, this is a quick and entertaining read. Set in rural Eastern Europe in the 1700s, our protagonist is a woodcutter's son who discovers that his father's denial of the village folklore does not prevent it from being true. However, his father has more secrets in regard to the villagers' fears than he had previously expected.

A great take on the historical ideas about vampires, which apparently were a little more like zombies with bloodlust, Marcus Sedgwick really brings you into the mind of Peter, the woodcutter's son.
