    Bellissima lettura, che ho divorato in pochi giorni., On Writing e’ allo stesso tempo una breve autobiografia di King (la parte più spassosa del libro), e un trattato sulla scrittura (On writing, appunto).

    La parte più divertente è senza dubbio la prima, nella quale King racconta a modo suo gli episodi che lo hanno reso lo scrittore che è. Divertente vedere come e quando l’idea di Carrie, il libro che gli avrebbe cambiato la vita, gli è venuta. Meno divertente – ma assolutamente stimolante – è leggere dei suoi problemi con l’alcol e con la droga.

    La seconda parte del libro è quella che più propriamente tratta della scrittura: ma On writing non è un libro che si prefigge l’obiettivo d’insegnare a scrivere bene. King lo dice chiaramente: o uno sa scrivere, o uno non sa scrivere. E per quelli che non sanno scrivere, c’è poco da fare se non dedicarsi ad altro. L’obiettivo di King è di rivedere gli attrezzi del mestiere dello scrittore, che – se usati sapientamente – possono però trasformare uno scrittore da bravino a bravo.

    King cerca di rispondere alle classiche domande che si fanno agli scrittori di successo (da dove ti arrivano le idee per le tue storie? Quando scrivi e per quanto tempo?). E le sue risposte non sono mai banali. Se cercate però discussioni alla Baricco sui massimi sistemi, la cultura e via cantando, questo non è il libro per voi. Per King lo scrivere è non solo arte, ma anche mestiere. E i mestieri si fanno sporcandosi le mani (in questo caso, leggendo e scrivendo continuamente), e non sedendo al caffè degli artisti aspettando l’arrivo della musa (che nel caso di King è un uomo, neanche una donna…)

    Una lettura obbligata per gli amanti di King e per gli scribacchini come me, ai quali piace mettere quattro parole in croce.
