A collection of short stories; first a few very short and simple fairy stories with a moral, then a few strange fairy tale like stories that were somewhat disturbing. "The Fisherman and his Soul" is a bit allegorical, but what the deeper meaning behind this story is, I have no idea... "The Birthday of the Infanta" was a bit depressing. The later stories in this book are longer and no fairy tales. I liked "Lord Arthur Saville's Crime" and "The Canterville Ghost" well enough, because of the sarcastic humor and irony. The early fairy tales in the beginning were also alright. In short, this is a collection with many different short stories, not exactly meant for children.
