Al Gore wrote an “Environmental crisis for dummies”, and he did it quite good. At first he explains how greenhouse gases are emitted and why are they dangerous. So he talks with plain words about energy systems; how electricity is made, how is delivered to users, how we can use less of it, and how we can “capture” CO2 with manmade machinery or trough forests and soil. This section is very simple to understand and is sufficiently strict to the facts, maybe is a bit too enthusiastic about the role of renewable energy.
Then the subject focuses on the sociologic and political aspects. Now that we know what we need to solve the climate crisis we learn why this is not yet happening and therefore how to make it reality. From now on Gore pushes more and more on the emotions of the reader, as permitted by the subject, ending with a passionate letter to the future generations.

I liked the book. As I study energy related subjects I already knew most of the things explained in the technical part and they’re quite accurate. What is missing is a linking step between technical matter and socio-politic issues which is economy. Not that economy is never mentioned but its mechanisms should have been illustrated way better.

Ok now it’s time to “go far, quickly.”
