One of the best commonly-available, practical PHP books
This is a great resource for both learning and reference. This is a great resource for both learning and reference. It has clear explanations and introductions to each of the languages (PHP and SQL), plenty of practical examples, and is more thorough than books such as, say, the Visual QuickStart book on PHP & MySQL. The examples are ones that are immediately useful and extendible (rather than remaining in simplified for-teaching-purposes-only form). If you plan on working on Web sites/apps that are more than just basic HTML, you should purchase this book, not just borrow it--it's excellent as a reference, including as a 'Cookbook' (the O'Reilly books).
